Weekly updates for 3-6 Physical Education!

Week of 9/4-9/7
Welcome Back!
Welcome to a new school year that will present new opportunities in 3-6 Physical Education class! We will be doing some of the same activities as years past, but we will also be implementing new games and activities as we go through the school year. The first week will look a little bit different than a normal week due to a different schedule with coming back to school. In PE we will be going over expectations for class as well as rules on Thursday, and then beginning our first unit which will be football. We will attempt to get outside as much as possible, but if mother nature throws us a curve ball we need to be able to adapt so please make sure your student has appropriate clothing and shoes for outside/inside depending on weather. I will attempt to give weekly updates on this website through email blasts on Fridays. You can also follow my classes and what we will be doing on Twitter where I will post interesting articles as well as games and activities we will do in class. (My Twitter handle is @CoachHaakonson) I look forward to teaching your student this year, and meeting your family!

Week of 9/10-9/14
What a wonderful week of weather we had to get outside and practice our football skills through a couple of fun games! On Monday and Tuesday we played Flickerball which is much like a regular football game but with a slight twist. Upon catching the ball the student can not run with the ball to score, instead they must look to pass the ball to another teammate to move the ball towards the other teams endzone. I made a rule that each team must complete at least 6 passes before they score in order to get everyone involved with the game. Monday we split the boys and girls up but Tuesday we combined teams! On Wednesday and Thursday last week we played Focceball which is a spin off of Bocce ball, I think the students really enjoyed this game! We worked on our passing and kicking skills to get the ball closest to the "Jack" which we used a tennis ball for. Teams were made up of two people against another two people, whichever team got their football/footballs closer to the "jack" got points for that round and had the opportunity to throw the ball to the next area for the next round! Friday we played a good ol game of kickball, this week has been pretty rainy so far so we are moving inside until probably Thursday or Friday. Have a great rest of the week and I will send another update early next week! (PICS BELOW)

Week of 9/24
Good afternoon! This week as well as last week has been a bit of inside as well as outside PE activities as we have had to dodge some weather that has moved in. Just a reminder that we will be outside if it is not raining or to cold, please make sure your child has a sweatshirt especially in the morning if they have class at that time. We have had a mix of flag football as well as soccer the last few weeks. The students are starting to pick up on the rules of flag football as we play more as well! We have played a few games of soccer in the gym, and also played backwards soccer where students use there hands to bat the ball along the gym floor to move it and trying to score on the backwards goal! We will wrap up our football unit this week and continue with some soccer skills before moving onto our Frisbee unit next week sometime!
Have a great day,

Week of 10/8
Good morning! Sorry for being a bit late on updating the website last week. This past week we did a few more soccer activities inside due to wet fields and cold temps. One of the activities we did was working on kicking towards a stationary object/ target. We did a relay race with that activity which the kids loved! We also played scooter soccer where students were sitting on scooters trying to score goals while moving around on the scooters. Many students got a good leg workout that day! Last Friday we did our PACER test which measures endurance while running. Congrats to all grade level high scores: 3rd Grade(August Z. 26) 4th Grade( Landon S. 61) 5th Grade( Levi S. 79) 6th Grade( Jake N. 81). We have also done the sit-up testing this Monday. Later on this week we will be starting our Frisbees unit, feel free to come and see me on Thursday at conferences as well if you have any questions about your child and PE class!

Week of 10/22
Good afternoon everyone! With last week being short I did not get around to posting a PE update, my apologies. Last week and continuing into this week we have been using Frisbees in multiple activities in class. Frisbee tick tac toe, and ultimate frisbee are just a couple. We have been running outside this week but have been doing our activities inside due to chilly temps in the morning classes. Classes have also been doing a few other activities such as kickball and handball along the way as well. Have a great rest of your week!
